Maxwell is a mix of Soul, R&B, and Funk music. Originally the band was called The Soul System which after disbanding, remaining members formed Maxwell in 1972 with their first gig atThe Harvey T. Makle American Legion Post in Columbia, PA. During their time as Maxwell, the garnered much success with their number 1 hit, "Radiation Funk" and opened for big names such as the Temptations, Village People, and the Spinners.

The band disbanded in 1986 but re-formed under the name The Maxwell Project in 2002. Currently consisting of original members of Maxwell and adding several musicians from Hit and Run; Half Moon Band, and Blitz Dinette; they have been playing the Harrisburg/Lancaster area for the past several years. The band is currently has 10 members with a 5 piece horn section playing covers of Tower of Power; Earth Wind and Fire; Average White Band; etc. They have been opening shows at the Strand Capitol Theatre in York, PA; the Host Farm Resort in Lancaster and are also regularly featured at the Hollywood Casino in Grantville. On July 4th the band was featured at the Harrisburg Jazz and Multi-Cultural Festival.
